The Dutch have this beautiful tradition of sending out "geboorte kaartjes" or birth cards to their loved ones as a way of announcing the birth of their newborn. As a new mom living in The Netherlands, I felt I too should join in on this tradition and illustrate my son's birth card.
It is important to capture these early days with your newborn and I feel an illustrated card or print is the best way to do so! You can send the card out to loved ones or frame it as an art print in your nursery room.
Process
1. Send me as many details about your family and your newborn as possible. For example: where will they be born? (I can include elements from your home town) or colours you like and any other details about yourselves so that I can illustrate your family portrait.
2. I will then send you a quote outlining the cost of the illustration, as well as the printing costs if you wish for me to get that done of your behalf.
3. Next, I begin sketching out how I envision your card to look like. I will then send the sketch back to you in order to get feedback and iron out any extra details you might want to add in.
4. Once the sketch has been approved, I move on to colour and texture and any other finer details.
5. Finally, once the artwork has been approved and sent off to the printer, you get to sit back and happily wait for your custom illustrated card to be delivered to your front door!
